Seven Blue Raiders finish first at day one of the Dean Hayes Classic

Middle Tennessee Track & Field has successful first day at the Dean Hayes Classic
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – At the first meet of the 2024-25 Indoor Track & Field season, seven Blue Raiders took home first place, out of 11 events.
The Dean Hayes Classic began with the long jump where freshman Xarya Udoumana took home first on the women's side and Jason Smallwood won the men's competition. They finished with scores of 5.80m and 7.29m, respectively.
Next, was the one-mile race where sophomore Eleanor Towe blew out the competition, winning the event by 16 seconds. Towe finished with a time of 5:03.05 and freshman Lauren Cole recorded a second-place finish. In the men's one mile, Vincent Yegon and Brendan Nagle finished in second and third, respectively.
In the women's 600 meter race, Privillege Chikara took home first place with a 1:35.84 time, a new personal record. For the men, Wail Bourahli narrowly missed out on first place finishing with a 1:20.06 time, compared to the 1:19.72 first place time.
Courtney Green and Tamia Waters took home first and second, respectively, in the women's 200-meter dash. They finished with times of 25.04 and 25.16 seconds. On the men's side, James Thomas Jr. finished in a tie for first place with a time of 21.89 seconds.
In the final race of the night, sophomore Sammy Sang rounded out the Blue Raiders outstanding day with a first-place finish in the men's 1,000-meter race. Sang ran for a time of 2:26.52.
