DALLAS – Following a pair of strong performances against Liberty and FIU, Middle Tennessee guard Savannah Wheeler was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Wheeler, a graduate from Catlettsburg, Kentucky picked up her eighth career weekly accolade and third of the season – she was previously named Player of the Week five times and Freshman of the Week twice.
The preseason CUSA Player of the Year was sensational this week, tallying 51 points on 19-of-37 (51.3 percent) from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe to pair with 17 assists, five rebounds and four steals.
She tallied 20 points, six assists and three steals against Liberty, where she went 7-of-15 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line in 40 minutes of action. This marked her fourth turnover-free performance of the season. Wheeler followed that showing with a 31-point, 11-assist double-double against FIU, where she went 12-of-22 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
