Softball splits final day in Florida

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Middle Tennessee softball (4-11) split on Sunday at The Spring Games with a (7-3) win over Brown and a (1-0) loss to Siena. The Blue Raiders finished out the weekend 4-2.
Game 1 – MTSU 7, Brown 3
Amaya Harris singled and came around to score on a RBI single from Ava Tepe to give MTSU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Bears answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up going into the second frame.
MTSU regained the lead in the third inning on a two-run homerun from Tepe. Her first career homerun as a Blue Raider. Lexi Medlock and Julia Garcia both homered in the fifth inning to increase the lead 5-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brown added two runs to cut the deficit in half 6-3.
Harris doubled in the sixth to score Medlock who drew a walk and stole second.
Keri Munn started in the circle throwing 2.0 innings allowing one earned run. Jesyne Espinal took over in the third going 3.0 innings giving up two earned runs on three hits. Kamryn Carcich closed the last two innings holding the Bears scoreless without a hit. Espinal was credited with the win.
Game 2 – MTSU 0, Siena 1
The first four innings were scoreless before Siena got a run across in the fifth to take a one-run lead.
MTSU had only one hit up until the sixth inning when Ansley Blevins delivered a leadoff single. The Blue Raiders were unable to get a run across leaving two runners on-base.
Harris singled to start off the seventh inning to give the Blue Raiders a chance to tie the game. After a sacrifice bunt that advanced Harris, MTSU recorded back-to-back outs. The 1-0 loss was the seventh one-run loss of the season.
Claire Woods through a complete game allowing just one run and five hits and five strikeouts.
