Barnard fires lowest round of season, earns top-10 finish in Vegas

HENDERSON, Nev. — Michael Barnard shot a 66 (-6) in the third round of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate on Wednesday, moving into the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Middle Tennessee men's golf combined for a 285 (-3) in the round to finish the event in 11th place at 863 (-1).
Barnard's 66 was his lowest round of the 2023-24 season and one stroke shy of his personal best. He tied for ninth overall at 211 (-5) after carding six birdies and 12 pars in the third round.
Markus Varjun shot a 70 (-2) Wednesday to tie his career-low 54-hole score of 212 (-4). He tied for 12th overall after carding five birdies in the final round of the event.
Playing as an individual, Sheldon McKnight carded a career-low 69 (-3) to end the tournament tied for 25th at 214 (-2). His seven birdies were the most by a Blue Raider in Wednesday's round.
Owen Stamper carded a 71 (-1) in the third round, ending the tourney tied for 58th at 218 (+2). He made five birdies in Wednesday's action.
Kevin Jegers was 6-over in the third round, tying for 83rd at 222 (+6). Gavin Clements finished 123rd to round out the Blue Raider lineup.
Also playing as an individual, Luke Perkins tied for 47th at 217 (+1) after a round of 76 (+4) Wednesday.

"Great week for Michael and Markus! I am very proud of the way they played this week. Sheldon and Luke also played well. This should give them some confidence for the rest of the spring. We just had a hard time getting four solid scores. I think we have a very good team and am excited for next week."
