MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Kamryn Carcich and Amaya Harris have earned Conference USA Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
"We're honored to have both Kam and Amaya as Players of the week in Conference USA this week," said Jeff Breeden. "Kam did it all for us this week with some crucial strikeouts in the circle and crucial hits at the plate. Amaya is seeing the ball really well and producing a lot of RBIs for us. She was amazing in the tournament. Congratulations to both of our players as they are good ambassadors for our school and both deserving of this award."
Carcich ranks seventh overall in CUSA's ERA category with a 2.41 after last week's games. She leads the league in innings pitched with 64. Against North Alabama, she threw a complete game allowing just one run to get her third win of the week. In 19 innings pitched last week, she put up a 1.47 ERA.
Carcich was 3-0 at the MTSU Invitational with 17 strikeouts. She tied her career-high in strikeouts on March 3 vs. North Alabama with eight. The Mississippi native would hit her third home run of the season in that same game to put the Blue Raiders ahead in the sixth inning. She is now tied for the team lead in home runs.
Middle Tennessee went 4-1 this weekend with three of its wins being led by Carcich in the circle.
"We are getting some momentum going right in time for conference and as a senior I just want to give it everything I've got for my team," Carcich said.
Harris ranks fourth in CUSA batting average at .435 after an impressive weekend at the MTSU Invitational. The senior hit .688 and led the team with 11 hits on four doubles and eight RBIs. Harris ranks second in overall hits in the conference as well with 30.
The McDonough, Ga. native now holds the longest hitting streak in Division I this season with 16 consecutive games with a hit.
In the MTSU Invitational, Harris and the Blue Raiders finished 4-1 and will host Detroit Mercy Monday, March 4 before getting into conference play on Friday, March 8 against UTEP.
"I give all the glory and praise to God. As a senior I'm just focused on taking it one day at a time and soaking it all in to do everything I can to help my team accomplish our goals," Harris said.
