4/13/2024 6:17:00 PM | Softball
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.— A pair of early home runs by the Liberty Flames (25-16, 14-3) proved to be too much for Middle Tennessee State (18-26, 5-12) to overcome as the Blue Raiders dropped the second game of a three-game set 5-1.
Liberty's Megan Fortner and Raigan Barrett provided the first three runs of the game via the long ball in the first two innings. Middle Tennessee got on the board in the bottom of the third after a bunt single by Shelby Sargent scored
Lexi Medlock from third to make it a 3-1 game.
Both starters settled in throughout the middle innings, with MTSU's Kamryn Carcich tossing five innings on Saturday following three innings in relief in last night's game, keeping Liberty off the board in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Claire Woods was able to pick up a pair of strikeouts and didn't allow a hit in two innings of work out of the bullpen.
Liberty starter Elena Escobar struck out 10 in a complete game to win her seventh game of the season. The Liberty offense added another two insurance runs in the top of the sixth.
