MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball (19-30, 5-16) lost in Sunday's series finale at Western Kentucky (28-16-1, 13-5) 3-0.
The series finale started scoreless after the first inning on Sunday. Kamryn Carcich started in the circle for the Blue Raiders with her league leading 13 wins.
MTSU was held hitless off WKU's Katie Gardner in the circle through four innings.
The Hilltoppers broke through in the bottom of the second inning with three runs. Taylor Sanders delivered a bases-loaded double that would clear the bases.
Amaya Harris was able to reach base in the fourth inning on a hard-hit line drive to second base that was officially ruled an error. It wouldn't amount to anything as MTSU was unable to plate a run.
A scoreless third and fourth inning for both sides left the game in favor of WKU 3-0.
Lexi Medlock led off the fifth with a single up the middle but was left stranded to keep the Blue Raiders scoreless after five.
Carcich tossed four consecutive scoreless innings after the three Hilltopper runs in the second inning.
Shelby Echols would double in the sixth inning for her 55th hit of the season to lead Conference USA. She is up to 26 hits against conference opponents which leads the league as well.
MTSU would start the seventh inning with a pair of base-hits from Ansley Blevins and Medlock, but it wouldn't be enough to erase the three-run deficit.
The Blue Raiders would drop their ninth straight conference game and the series finale on Sunday at WKU 3-0.
Offensively, Echols led the way with a double on Sunday to pick up her league leading 55th hit of the year. Medlock added two hits in Sunday's game as well.
