Blue Raiders tied for fourth through first round at Vanderbilt

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's golf is tied for fourth after one round at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The Blue Raiders combined for a score of 285 (+1) on the par-71 South Course at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
On a chilly, cloudy day, MTSU finished seven strokes ahead of No. 9 Alabama and level with No. 5 Ole Miss.
Markus Varjun is tied for third individually at 68 (-3). He picked up five birdies in the first round.
Owen Stamper heads into the second round tied for 15th after an even-par round of 71. His six birdies led the Blue Raiders in the opening round.
Michael Barnard and Kevin Jegers are tied for 32nd at 73 (+2). Jegers made three birdies, while Barnard picked up one of his own.
Sheldon McKnight rounds out the MTSU lineup at 75 (+4). He and Barnard tied for the team lead with 14 pars.
By the Numbers
15 – The Blue Raiders recorded 15 birdies Friday.
E – MTSU played even-par golf on par 4 holes in the first round. Only No. 3 Vanderbilt was better at -1.
4 – The Blue Raiders picked up four birdies on the eighth hole.
