Three Blue Raiders named to Conference USA All-Conference Teams

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Sana Garakani and Ilaria Sposetti were tabbed to the Conference USA Singles Second Team as Lena Peyer was named to the All-Freshman Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
"It is exciting to see Sana, Ilaria and Lena be recognized by the conference for their hard work throughout the season," said MTSU Head Coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall. "In the midst of hurdles and a few setbacks, they were able to consistently compete and put their best efforts forward for the team."
Garakani has recorded a 12-8 record from the No. 1 court in singles this spring. Her 12 wins leads MTSU in singles wins. The Lisbon, Portugal native earned Conference USA Athlete of the Month for November. Garakani tallied a win over Louisville's No. 1 Jamilah Snells 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Sposetti tallied seven singles wins on the season. The Tolentino, Italy native recorded three match clinches over the course of the season clinching Chattanooga, Alabama A&M and Troy. Sposetti defeated Louisville's Berta Miret 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Peyer finished the season with 11 singles wins which is good for second most on the team. The Meggen, Switzerland native clinched the best win of the season for the Blue Raiders over Louisville with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win. The win was the first over a Power-5 school since 2016. She also clinched the win against Conference USA foe Sam Houston in the season finale.
