WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — With a much-improved front nine and four more birdies on the back nine, Middle Tennessee's Owen Stamper jumped 27 spots on Tuesday shooting a 68 (-4) in the second round of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional.
Stamper is now in a tie for 13th overall at 1-under (143) for the tournament, which is being played at the par-72 Kampen-Cosler Course. He's just three strokes off the advancing individual spot going into the final day of competition.
The senior from Scottsville, Kentucky began round two with 15 consecutive holes of par or better, including birdies on holes 1, 10, 13, 14 and 15. After a bogey on 16, he parred 17 and 18. Stamper was 3-under on par 4s on Tuesday.
Stamper is in the last group on Wednesday and will tee off at 10:34 a.m. ET, where he'll be paired with Wisconsin's Cameron Huss (T5, -4) and Tennessee Tech's Sean Anderson (T28, +1).
Coach's Comments: Assistant Coach Payne Denman
"Owen played great today. He seemed a lot more comfortable from the start and did what he needed to do by hitting a lot of greens and giving himself chances for birdie. He stayed patient and it paid off. He's put himself in a good position going into the final round. We're just going to try to keep the same momentum going into tomorrow and enjoy the opportunity."
