Middle Tennessee Edges Tennessee Tech 3-2 for First Win of 2024

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team (1-2-0) picked up its first win of the 2024 fall season tonight in a thrilling 3-2 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (0-3-1) at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Raiders bounced back from their loss to the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Thursday in Lafayette, kicking off the season's first homestand with their first result in the win column.
Middle Tennessee came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders, creating three scoring opportunities in the opening three minutes of the match. Leading goalscorer Emma Pettersen created two of said chances, along with Megan Carroll, who notched her first start of 2024, creating a chance off Pettersen's shot, forcing opposing goalkeeper Maggie Conrad into her first of eight saves on the evening.
Just six minutes later, Pettersen opened the scoring for the Blue Raiders with her team-high second goal of the season, coming off an assist from Idun Kvaale.
In the 15th minute, CUSA Preseason All-Conference selection Manon Lebargy slotted home her first goal of the season off a rebound from a shot from Kvaale that was saved that was deflected directly into the path of the France native, giving MTSU a two-goal advantage.
The game would progress another 10 minutes prior to goalkeeper Demi Gronauer recorded her first save of the evening from a shot by Tennessee Tech's Neve Renwick in the 25th minute.
On the stroke of the halftime whistle, the Golden Eagles would pull one back with a goal by Anna Baker, coming off the assist from former Middle Tennessee forward Skylar Williams, cutting the home lead in half going into the break.
In the 58th minute, freshman Lexi Dendis created the second half's first scoring opportunity, forcing Conrad into another save to keep the scoreline at 2-1.
Kvaale would be the second Blue Raider to put their name on the season's scoresheet for the first time tonight with a goal in the 70th minute, with the assist credited to Pettersen.
Tennessee Tech would cut the Middle Tennessee lead back down to one with their second goal of the match in the 90th minute from Allisson Lee, moving the score to 3-2.
The 90 minutes concluded with the Blue Raiders holding on to a 3-2 lead, resulting in their first win of 2024.
Three different Blue Raiders got on the scoresheet tonight, with Pettersen scoring her second of the season, and Lebargy and Kvaale recording their first. As a team, Middle Tennessee recorded 17 shots, with 11 on frame. Gronauer added three saves to her season tally, moving her total to 16.
