Blue Raiders Wrap Up Strong Showing at Rome Invitational

ROME, Ga. — The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team closed out a competitive weekend at the Rome Invitational with several standout performances against a strong field that included Georgia Tech, FAU, Columbia, Kennesaw State, and Georgia.
The Blue Raiders opened play Friday with a doubles win from Lalance and Duran, who took down FAU's Hodzic and Miremont 6-3. In singles action, Mayoral picked up an impressive straight-sets victory over Georgia Tech's DeMuth (6-1, 6-4), while Murray (6-1, 6-2), Dziopak (6-2, 4-6, 6-1), Duran (6-1, 1-6, 6-2), and Crivei (7-6 [8], 4-6, 7-6 [3]) also earned hard-fought wins to highlight MTSU's first day.
On Saturday, Murray continued his strong form with a 6-2 victory over FAU's Hodzic before his opponent retired. Dziopak added another win to his tally, defeating Georgia's Vulpitta 6-5 (ret.). The duo of Murray and Crivei also earned a doubles win over Columbia's Katuch and You (6-2).
On Sunday at the Rome Invitational, highlighted by Murray's 6-4, 5-0 (ret.) win over Kennesaw State's Walters. Crivei battled in a tight three-set match before falling 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to Georgia Tech's Shoenmakers, while Dziopak dropped another close contest 7-6(11), 4-6, 10-8 to KSU's Hudson. Lalance, Mayoral, and Duran also competed hard against tough opponents from Georgia Tech, as the Blue Raiders capped off a strong weekend of fall competition in Rome.
