SERIES HISTORY
» This marks the 16th meeting in series history between the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and Rice Owls.
» MTSU owns an 11-4 lead over Rice in the all-time series.
» The Blue Raiders won the previous meeting 85-56 in Murfreesboro on January 11, 2023.
BLUE RAIDER NOTES
» MTSU enters the matchup coming off a 54-63 road setback at Tennessee Tech. A trio of Blue Raiders scored double figures, including a career high 17 points from Yu Han Lin
» Baugus was named CUSA Freshman of the Week after helping guide MTSU to a 2-0 start against Tennessee State and Saint Louis. She is the only freshman in the nation to start two games and open the 2025-26 season with back-to-back double-doubles, posting 10 points and 12 rebounds vs. Tennessee State and 13 points and 11 boards at Saint Louis.
» The Blue Raiders have enjoyed great success on the road under Head Coach Rick Insell. The Blue Raiders are 181-95 overall on the road under Insell, for a 66 percent winning ledger.
» Middle Tennessee is one of only a handful of Division I programs that do not feature a single returning starter on the roster. According to available national data, Santa Clara is the only program in the country bringing in more newcomers while also returning zero starters.
» Senior Alayna Contreras was selected to the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team. The Minneapolis, Minn., native started all 33 games last year and led UMKC in scoring (17.3 ppg), minutes, field goals made, three-pointers made and free throws made.
» Middle Tennessee was picked third in the CUSA preseason poll. This marks only the sixth time in Rick Insell's 21 seasons — and just the fourth time in CUSA — that the Blue Raiders have not been selected as the preseason favorite.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
» Rice enters the matchup with a 1-1, 0-0 AC record. The Owls are coming off a 70-56 road win over Houston.
» Victoria Flores leads the Owls in scoring (16.0 PPG), while Hailey Adams paces Rice in boards (12.0 RPG).
» Three Owls earned preseason All-Conference honors with Dominique Ennis (First Team), Aniah Alexis (Second Team) and Victoria Flores (Second Team) all earning recognition. Rice was selected third in the American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
» Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds enters her fifth year at the helm for Rice. Already the fastest coach to win a conference title in program history, the Owls are fresh off back-to-back appearances in the American Conference Championship game, claiming the title in 2024.
