A pair of Blue Raider are in the top 10 after day one in Georgia

STATESBORO, Ga. – A pair of Blue Raiders sit in the top 10 after two rounds of the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course. Freshman Thad Whitfield leads Middle Tennessee at 6-under par 138 and is tied for second in the individual standings.
Liberty's Michael Lugiano is atop the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 7-under-par 137.
The Blue Raiders will return to action for the final round of the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate on Sunday, Feb. 2. MTSU will tee off at 7:15 a.m. CT via shotgun format.
The Lineup
• Freshman Thad Whitfield led the Blue Raiders with a pair of 3-under par 69 rounds. He is currently tied for second place at 6-under 138.
• Redshirt junior Markus Varjun fired an opening round 4-under par 68, but a second round of 2-over par 74 dropped Varjun to a tie for 10th at 2-under par 142.
• Freshman Oliver Baker carded a 6-over par 78 and 4-over par 76 to sit tied for 45th after two rounds.
• In his collegiate debut, redshirt sophomore Jake Hopper posted an opening round 13-over par 85 and second round 4-over par 76. He rounds out the Blue Raiders in a tie for 61st.
Coach's Comments: Mark McEntire
"I was very happy with the start today," said Head Coach Mark McEntire. "It was great to see Markus and Thad play like we know and expect. Need to make sure we keep them going! Ollie and Jake were able to knock off some rust and we look for them to improve tomorrow."
