Blue Raider offense fails to find its groove
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Middle Tennessee softball fell to Jacksonville and North Florida on Saturday, Feb. 15. The score vs. UConn was 4-3 and went to extra innings while the score vs. North Florida was 6-0.
In the UConn game, the Blue Raiders (3-6, 0-0) allowed a run in the top of the first inning and the scored remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning. Jana Want recorded a two-RBI single to score Ava Brooks and Macie Harter which gave the Blue Raiders a 2-1 lead. The Huskies tied the game in the sixth inning before outlasting MTSU in the eighth inning by a score of 4-3. UConn hit a two-run home run in the top of the inning that the Blue Raiders could not match.
In the North Florida game, the Blue Raiders were held to four base runners across the seven inning game. Jana Want recorded two walks while Avery Wynne recorded the first hit of her collegiate career as she checked into the game as a pinch hitter. Julia Garcia recorded the other hit for MTSU. Mary Martinez pitched well in relief by throwing four innings, while giving up one earned run and struck out two batters.
