A pair of Blue Raiders are in the top 15
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Blue Raiders fired a 1-over-par 289 on Monday to sit tied for fifth place after 36 holes Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club. Redshirt junior Markus Varjun fired a 3-under 69 and is tied for fourth in the individual standings.
Richmond is atop the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 20-under-par 556. Boise State is second at 13-under-par 563, while host institution Loyola (Md.) is third at 11-under-par 656 and UT Martin is fourth at 10-under-par 6566. The Blue Raiders round out the top five at fifth place with a 36-hole total of 7-under-par 569.
Marshall's Ryan Bilby and Boise State's Cole Rueck lead the individual standings with 36-hole totals of 10-under-par 134. Richmond's Cole Eckert is second at 9-under-par 135, while Varjun and Grand Canyon's Joshua McCabe are tied for fourth at 7-under-par 137
The Loyola Intercollegiate concludes with a final round on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The final round will begin at 8:45 a.m. CT via shotgun format.
The Lineup
• Redshirt junior Markus Varjun paced the Blue Raiders with a second round of 3-under-par 69. He is currently tied for fourth place at 7-under-par 137.
• Redshirt junior Carter Maneth fired a second rebound of even-par 72. He is currently tied for 13th at 3-under-par 141.
• Senior JJ Zimmer and Freshman Thad Whitfield each posted rounds of 2-over-par 74. Whitfield is currently tied for 42nd with a 36-hole total of 1-over-par 145, while Zimmer is tied for 50th at 2-over-par 146.
• Junior Luke Perkins rounded out the Blue Raiders with a 3-over-par 75. He is tied for 67th at 4-over-par 148
• Competing as an individual, freshman Charlie Bell fired a 1-over-par 73. He is tied for 57th at 3-over-par 147.
Coach's Comments: Mark McEntire
"Markus played very solid today and Carter grounded out a good score," said Head Coach Mark McEntire. "We are throwing away too many shots with wedges and not taking advantage of the par 5s. Let's see if we can get it to click tomorrow and move up the board."
