MTSU falls to Austin Peay in extra innings

Blue Raiders drop back and forth battle vs. Govs
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball was defeated by Austin Peay in extra innings by a score of 6-5.
The Blue Raiders (4-11, 0-0) opened the game strong with a triple from Macie Harter as Jana Want drove her in on a single the following at-bat. The Govs (12-3, 0-0) took no time to answer back, hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
The game remained 3-1 until the fourth inning where Ava Tepe hit a sacrifice fly to score Lexi Medlock to bring the score to a one-run game. Ausin Peay responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the inning.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth inning, Ava Brooks came up clutch and hit a bases clearing double to put the Blue Raiders ahead by one. The runners who scored were Lexi Medlock, Emmaline Whitt, and Macie Harter.
Middle Tennessee held the lead for a couple innings before the Govs tied it in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run. In extra innings, the Blue Raiders were unable to score in the top of the eighth inning and the Govs closed the game in the bottom of the inning on a walk-off sacrifice fly.
Both teams did a great job of getting runners on base but struggled to score them. The Blue Raiders left seven runners on base, while the Govs left 11 stranded. Macier Harter and Ava Brooks led the team in hits with two apiece. Harter and Lexi Medlock combined to score four of the Blue Raiders' five runs.

The Blue Raiders will be hosting the MTSU Invitational beginning on Friday, Feb. 28. The teams attending will be Ball State and Illinois State with first pitch set for 11 am on Friday vs. Ball State.
