MTSU suffers defeat to UAB in Birmingham

Jana Want slugs fourth home run while Tori Coffman throws complete game
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball was defeated by the UAB Blazers by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday, March 11 in Birmingham, Ala.
The Blue Raiders (9-15, 1-2) fell to an early 1-0 lead to the Blazers (11-13, 1-2) after the first inning before evening up the score on an Addy Edgmon RBI single in the third. In the bottom of the inning, UAB scored their second run on a bunt single to give them a 2-1 lead.
The Blazers added two insurance runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly with a throwing error that UAB capitalized on. In the top of the sixth inning, reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Week, Jana Want, hit a solo home run to left field to bring the score to 4-2 which ended up being the final run of the game. It was Want's 20th RBI of the season, which moved her to seventh in the Conference USA rankings.
Tori Coffman pitched a great game for the Blue Raiders, throwing a complete game while giving up just one earned run. Three errors by MTSU were crucial in the loss as UAB took advantage.
