MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's basketball team earned its first postseason berth since the 2021-22 season following a campaign that saw the team compile a 22-11 record and a second-place finish in the Conference USA regular season. The Blue Raiders earned a No. 4 seed in the National Invitational Tournament and are set to host Chattanooga in Murfreesboro Tuesday.
The bid to the NIT marks the second postseason appearance in the Nick McDevitt era for Middle Tennessee and the first trip to the tournament since 2018, where MTSU went 1-1 in that postseason trip, defeating Vermont in the Murphy Center. Tuesday will mark the Blue Raiders' fifth NIT appearance where they have a 5-4 all-time record in the event.
The Blue Raiders were highlighted in postseason awards by Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and First Teamer Essam Mostafa, Second Team All-CUSA member Jestin Porter, Honorable Mention All-CUSA honoree Camryn Weston and CUSA All-Freshman player Torey Alston.
Middle Tennessee reached the semifinals of the Conference USA Championship last week after downing Louisiana Tech in a thrilling double-overtime victory Thursday night. The Raiders have advanced to the conference semifinals in each of the past four seasons.
The Blue Raiders will face off against Chattanooga for the first time since 2022 and the contest will mark the 69th all-time meeting between the two. Chattanooga earned the top seed in the SoCon Conference Tournament and advanced to the semifinals before falling to Furman.
The contest will tip at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Murphy Center. The contest will be aired on ESPN+.
