Leila Ammon takes home second Conference USA Freshman of the Week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Leila Ammon has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on March 17, 2025. This marks the second time Ammon has taken home the award and it is the fifth weekly CUSA award taken home by Middle Tennessee this season, tied for with the 2018 season for the most since joining Conference USA. The Blue Raiders have taken four of the six possible CUSA Freshman of the Week's with two from Ammon and two from Jana Want.
Leila Ammon dominated the No. 19 Mississippi State offense in MTSU's dramatic, upset win over the Bulldogs. Ammon threw a complete game, giving up just two runs and stuck out three Bulldogs en route to the Blue Raider win.
In the Conference USA series vs. Sam Houston, Ammon threw 8.1 innings across two appearances while surrendering zero earned runs. In her first appearance, the freshman tossed a complete game with no earned runs in a win over the Bearkats, while striking out six. In her third and final appearance of the week, Ammon threw 1.1 scoreless innings in a relief role.
