MTSU offense shows out in all-around effort
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball defeated UT Martin 8-0 in a five-inning run-rule victory.
The Blue Raiders (13-16, 3-3) offense was firing on all cylinders as six different student-athletes crossed home plate in the four innings at the plate for MTSU. Addy Edgmon and Jana Want each scored twice. Middle Tennessee dominated the Skyhawks (10-14, 2-4) pitching staff, forcing UT Martin to use three different pitchers in the four innings. Want led the charge offensively, going 2/3 with a home run and three RBIs while extending her hitting streak to 13 games.
Want's home run in the first inning opened the scoring before the Blue Raiders began piling on runs in the second. The rally started with a Lilly Pendergrast RBI-double, followed by an Ava Tepe single to left field that brought Pendergrast home. Later in the inning, Want delivered an RBI-single up the middle, scoring two more and pushing the lead to 5-0.
Edgmon opened the fourth inning with a home run to right-center field, her fifth of the season. Lexi Medlock and Zoe Milonopoulos followed with RBI singles, extending the Blue Raiders' lead to 8-0.
On the mound, Tori Coffman was dominant, throwing five shutout innings while allowing just five baserunners, none of whom advanced past second base. It marked her fifth complete game of the season and her first shutout.
When asked about her performance, Tori Coffman stated "We played well as a team: we hit well, fielded well and played together as one team. We're starting to find our groove at the right time."
