Middle Tennessee in second after day two of the CUSA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Blue Raiders fired a round of 1-over-par 289 on Tuesday to sit tied for second after 36 holes at the CUSA Championship at Texarkana Country Club. Junior Luke Perkins leads Middle Tennessee at 2-under-par 142 and is tied for eighth.

Liberty is atop the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 6-under-par 570. Middle Tennessee, Sam Houston and UTEP are tied for second at 2-under-par 574, while Kennesaw State is in fifth at 1-over-par 577.

Liberty's Ike Joy leads the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 5-under-par 139, while Kennesaw State's Claes Borregaard, NM State's Aidan Thomas, Sam Houston's Hugo Trommetter and UTEP's Braden Smith are tied for second at 4-under-par 140. Perkins leads Middle Tennessee at 2-under-par 142 and is tied for eighth.

The CUSA Championship continues with a final 18 holes on Wednesday, Apr. 23. The top four teams will advance to match play on Thursday, Apr. 24. Final round action will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT.

The Lineup
• Senior JJ Zimmer and redshirt juniors Carter Maneth and Markus Varjun paced the Blue Raiders, each carding second rounds of even-par 72. Zimmer is tied for 10th overall at 1-under-par 143, while Varjun is tied for 15th at even-par 144 and Maneth is tied for 19th at 1-over-par 145.

• Junior Luke Perkins and freshman Thad Whitfield each posted second rounds of 1-over-par 73. Perkins leads MTSU at 2-under-par 142 and is tied for eighth, while Whitfield rounds out the Blue Raiders at 3-over-par 147 and is tied for 25th.

"Today was a solid day," said Head Coach Mark McEntire. "We did a great job on the par 5s. I am excited for the guys to peg it tomorrow. Our goal is to win the tournament and earn the No. 1 seed going into match play."
