7th inning home run from Ava Tepe powered the offense
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball defeated the Tennessee State University Tigers 2-0 on Tuesday, April 22. The game originally began on April 2 but was paused in the bottom of the second inning due to weather.
The Blue Raiders (23-24, 10-11) and the Tigers (20-18, 10-10) were locked in a pitchers' duel for much of the game, with Tori Coffman in the circle for MTSU. Coffman pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits and striking out four. The performance improved the junior's record to 9-6.
Middle Tennessee's offense remained scoreless through the first six innings, but Coffman's dominance kept the game within reach. In the top of the seventh, with one runner on and one out, Ava Tepe launched a go-ahead home run to deep center field, putting the Blue Raiders on top. It was Tepe's fifth home run of the season and brought her RBI total to 22.
When asked about her performance, Tori Coffman said the following: "I've got to give credit to the defense behind me for keeping us in it, and to Ava for coming through with that go-ahead homer."
