MTSU gets outslugged by Austin Peay, splits season series

Middle Tennessee (15-18) got off to a hot start at the plate, putting up two runs in the first inning. Eston Snider led off the game with a double and was brought home by Tyler Minnick on a sacrifice fly. Brett Vondohlen joined the action with his 13th home run of the season.
The Governors (26-7) matched the score with a two-run shot to center field, but Cole Torbett responded with a shutdown inning in the second to keep the game tied heading into the third.
Starting for the first time at first base, Hayden Miller launched a home run over the left-center field wall to regain the lead. That edge didn't last long, however, as Austin Peay responded with three runs to take the lead for the first time—and didn't look back. The Govs strung together nine runs over the next three innings to build a comfortable advantage.
Still, the Blue Raiders didn't back down. They put up five runs in the sixth on just two hits to cut the deficit to 14-8 heading into the seventh inning.
Kenny McKinley added a two-run home run in the ninth to bring Middle Tennessee within four, but Austin Peay held on to win 14-10 and extend its winning streak to 13 games.
By the numbers
13 – Brett Vondohlen hit his 13th home run of the year, tying him for 14th in the nation.
3.1 – Logan Bingham pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief without allowing an earned run.
