Middle Tennessee Wraps Up Day One of the CUSA Outdoor Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee wrapped up the first day of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships with a flurry of personal bests across multiple events and saw a podium finish.
In the 10,000-meter Sandra Mayio came in second place in the event. Running a time of 36:06.52 and picking up the first medal of the outdoor championships for MTSU.
The weekend opened with the women's long jump, where four Blue Raiders recorded new personal bests. Laura Odivwri led the way with a mark of 6.05 meters. Viktoria Rusnakova jumped 6.03 meters, Xarya Udomana hit 6.00 meters, and Myia Carthan recorded a mark of 5.04 meters.
On the men's side, freshman Jason Smallwood of Memphis also set a personal best in the long jump, posting a jump of 7.41 meters.
Tamia Waters continued her strong season in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a personal best of 13.72 seconds to earn a spot in Sunday's final.
In the 400-meter prelims, Zenade October and Elijah Northcross both set personal bests. October finished in 56.21 seconds, while Northcross recorded a time of 49.25.
John Sherman, Middle Tennessee's top sprinter this season, continued to impress in the men's 100-meter prelims. He posted a personal best of 10.06 seconds to secure a place in Sunday's final.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action tomorrow at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium with the first event set to start at 9:00 a.m.
