Varjun and Whitfield tabbed All-CUSA

DALLAS — Middle Tennessee men's golfers Markus Varjun and Thad Whitfield earned All-Conference honors, as announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
Varjun, a native of Tallinn, Estonia, was tabbed Second Team All-Conference USA. The redshirt junior posted a 71.70 scoring average on the season that featured 15 rounds of par or better golf, seven rounds in the 60s, and of his 27 rounds, 26 were counted. Varjun posted seven top 20 finishes on the season, including a second-place showing at the Loyola Intercollegiate, where he posted a career-low 54-hole total of 12-under-par 204. He also fired a career-low 18-hole total of 6-under-par 66 at the Louisiana Classics and carded his first career hole-in-one at the Schenkel Invitational.
Whitfield, a Signal Mountain, Tennessee native, was named to the CUSA All-Freshman Team. He posted a 73.00 scoring average on the season that featured 12 rounds of par or better golf, three rounds in the 60s, and of his 24 rounds, 19 were counted. Whitfield posted four top 20 finishes on the season, including a pair of sixth-place showings at the Bearcat Invitational and the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate. The freshman was second on the team in total birdies with 94 on the year.
