Bokpin and Tomlinson earn Conference USA weekly honors

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a successful weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Mustapha Bokpin was named the Conference USA Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Evan Tomlinson was named the CUSA Male Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Jan. 20.
Mustapha Bokpin showed out for Middle Tennessee at the Vanderbilt Invitational. After the weekend, Bokpin now holds the fastest times in Conference USA in the 60m and the 200mand was also a part of the Blue Raider relay team who holds the fastest 4x400 time in the conference.
Bokpin kicked off the meet with a first place finish in the 200m with a mark of 20.99; the sophomore is now just one of 11 athletes in the nation to run sub-21 seconds with a time that is tied for 10th best in division one in the 200m. He then secured a second place finish in the 60m with a time of 6.62, the mark tied for 14th in the nation. The weekend ended with the 4x400 relay, where Middle Tennessee finished second at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a time of 3:10.91.
Evan Tomlinson also had an impressive showing at the Vanderbilt Invitational. After the weekend in Nashville, Tomlinson now holds the fastest mark of all freshmen in Conference USA in the 200m, the second fastest mark of all freshmen in the conference in the 60m and was a part of the Blue Raider relay team who holds the fastest 4x400 time in CUSA.
The freshman started the weekend with a fifth place finish in the 200m out of a competitive pool of 51, finishing with a mark of 21.87. Tomlinson then finished 11th in the semi-finals of the 60m with a personal best time of 6.89. The meet ended with the 4x400 relay, where Middle Tennessee finished second at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a time of 3:10.91.
This marks Bokpin's second Conference USA weekly honor this indoor season and Tomlinson's first.

The Blue Raiders will head to Louisville to compete in the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. The meet will be held on January 30 and 31 at the Norton Healthcare Sport and Learning Center.
