MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball (7-9) opened play at home 2-0 after defeating Akron (5-12) and UT Martin (10-6) today at the Blue Raider Softball Field. The Blue Raiders took down the Zips by a score of 4-3 and defeated the Skyhawks by a score of 9-3.

The Blue Raiders battled against the Zips; a burst of offense in the fifth inning securing the win against Akron. A two-RBI Jana Want home run took the lead for the Blue Raiders, Want's second of the season. Braelyn Hall got the start in the circle recording her second win of the season, and Elle Hildreth entered the game in relief to pick up the save. Hall and Hildreth combined for a season-high six strikeouts against Akron. The Blue Raiders played tough defense around both pitchers, playing their fourth straight game without a defensive error.

The second game of the day saw one of the best offensive performances of the season from the Blue Raiders, Middle Tennessee tying a season best at the plate with 11 hits. Eight of the nine Middle Tennessee runs came in the first inning, with six different Blue Raiders knocking hits and recording RBIs. Mary Martinez pitched a complete game for Middle Tennessee, including four innings of hitless work. Martinez did not give up an earned run in her fourth career complete game.

By the Numbers

6: After two triples off the bats of Macie Harter and Mady Pint today, Middle Tennessee is now tied for the most triples in Conference USA with six.
7: The Blue Raiders batted through the order and had seven hits in just the first inning against UT Martin.
8: Middle Tennessee combined for eight extra base hits across both games today, including four doubles, two triples and two home runs.
