Blue Raiders win fourth straight at FIU, 73-67

MIAMI, Fla. – Middle Tennessee Men's Basketball (16-14, 10-9 CUSA) battled FIU (14-16, 7-12 CUSA) in the Ocean Bay Convocation Center on Thursday night, defeating the Panthers by a score of 73-67.
Tre Green kicked off the scoring for the Blue Raiders, drilling three shots from deep to score the first nine points for Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders and Panthers traded blows, FIU jumping out to as much as a six-point lead with 12 minutes on the clock before Middle Tennessee tied up the game with three-pointers from Green and Kamari Lands. Both teams battled for the rest of the half, trading the lead nine more times before the first half would conclude.
Middle Tennessee headed to the locker room in a one-point deficit, 34-33. Green led all players in the game with 15 at the half, Torey Alston leading the Blue Raiders in rebounds with four. Middle Tennessee forced nine FIU turnovers and blocked two Panther shots in the first 20 minutes of play.
Lands opened up the second half with a jumper, following up with a three-pointer to continue to match the scoring from FIU. The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 scoring run, but MTSU never went away. The Blue Raiders instead countered with a 6-0 scoring run of their own, bringing the score to 49-46 in favor of FIU. A three-pointer from Green would tie the ball game with just over six minutes left to play, only to drain another a possession later to put the Blue Raiders up by three. Back-to-back scores from Jahvin Carter would push Middle Tennessee out to a 68-61 lead with under three minutes left in the half. The Blue Raiders and Panthers continued to trade blows for the rest of the half, but Middle Tennessee ultimately held the lead to defeat FIU by a score of 73-67.
Green finished with the most points for Middle Tennessee with 25, Lands and Carter also in double-figure scoring for the Blue Raiders. Middle Tennessee topped FIU off the glass, led by Alston with eight total rebounds.
