JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Middle Tennessee Softball (20-28, 6-18 CUSA) took down the Conference USA regular season champions Jax State (39-13, 21-3 CUSA) by a score of 5-4 to hand the Gamecocks just their third loss in CUSA play.
The Blue Raiders fell behind early but would grab the lead in the top of the third inning when two Middle Tennessee home runs left the yard to put the Blue Raiders up 3-1. Jax State responded in the bottom of the third, but Middle Tennessee kept the damage to a minimum, getting out of the inning with a one-run lead.
The next three innings were scoreless for both teams, but the Blue Raiders would strike in the top of the seventh, Ansley Blevins and Avery Wynne both batting in runners to allow Middle Tennessee to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Gamecocks began to rally, two Jax State runners crossing the plate to bring the game within one run, but Braelyn Hall struck out the final batter to record the last out of the game, sealing the deal for the Blue Raiders.
Hall got the start in the circle for Middle Tennessee, pitching a complete seven-inning game, striking out five and recording her seventh win of the season. The freshman right-hander allowed just two extra-base hits and only three earned runs.
