Blue Raiders fall in game two to FIU

MIAMI- Middle Tennessee baseball (24-26, 11-15 CUSA) fell in the middle game of a weekend set to FIU (16-34, 7-19 CUSA) 7-5 on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Raider offense got started in the first frame of the ballgame, as Cooper Clapp slugged his seventh home run of the season to get things off to a 1-0 lead. Brett Vondohlen extended it to a two-run lead in the second with an RBI single.
FIU's offense pushed five men across to score in the bottom of the second, taking a 5-2 lead against Blue Raider starter Chandler Alderman. The junior southpaw totaled 5.2 innings pitched, on 100 pitches.
Middle Tennessee's offense battled back in the top of the fourth with two runs after RBIs from Brett Rogers on a double and a RBI single by Owen Nowak.
The 5-4 score held until the eighth inning when Vondohlen tied it on a sacrifice bunt to score Rogers. In the bottom half of the frame, FIU took the lead on a two-run home run.
The Blue Raider pitching staff only had to turn to two arms out of the bullpen, with Landen Burch (L, 4-4) tossing 1.2 innings and Colin Kerrigan picked up 0.2 innings. Both struck out one each, while Alderman picked up six punchouts.
