Henry captures first title at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HOUSTON- After turning in a three-under 69 stroke third round, Blue Raider senior Connor Henry is returning to campus with his first career title in hand from the Bayou City Collegiate Classic. Across three rounds, Henry shot 10-under 206 to finish atop the leaderboard.
This marks Henry's first career title, and is the second for the program in as many weeks following Jake Hopper's win at the Grover Page Classic. Henry's 206 54-hole total marks the sixth lowest stroke total in program history, and the third time that 206 has been shot by a Blue Raider.
Henry's three-under round led the way for the Blue Raiders in the third round, as Middle Tennessee shot finished in sixth place with a five-over team performance.
The next highest golfer on the board for the Blue Raiders was freshman Stiles Hunter, at T42. Hunter was six-over on the tournament, after shooting a two-over 73 in the third round.
Maddox Crowder and Clay Pendergrass, who both added a scoring round today were tied at T52 at eight-over. Crowder had an up-and-down day with three bogeys and two birdies, while Pendergrass was three-over on the day.
Jake Hopper rounds out the Blue Raiders competing with the team, at a nine-over total for the tournament. The fifth-year man shot six-over to close out the two days in Texas. Tied with Hopper at T60 is teammate Oliver Baker, who was competing as an individual. An even-par round finished Baker's time in Houston.
Coach's Comments (Head coach Mark McEntire)
"Congrats to Connor Henry on his first win in college," McEntire said. "Hopefully this becomes a recurring theme. I was disappointed on the team front this week. I just feel like when you have a guy that wins the golf tournament, we need to have a better finish. We've got about 10 days before our next event in Arkansas. It'll be nice to work on some things to get some practice in and get ready for a good tournament there."
Next up: The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Oct. 3 for the first round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational hosted by Arkansas. The tournament will run from Oct. 3-5 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
