Head Coach Jim Toman announced the hiring of Volunteer Assistant Lukas Ray on July 28, 2020. Ray will work with the catchers and baserunners, coach first base, and assist with coaching the pitchers. Ray will also be the team’s camp director and oversee the stadium and managers.
Assistant Baseball Coach at Charleston Southern University (2019-2020)
Under Ray’s lead the Buccaneers led the Big South Conference in stolen bases and ranked seventh nationally with 40 stolen bases in 42 attempts. Charleston Southern was also atop the Big South in catcher fielding percentage (1.000) through 19 games.
Recruiting Coordinator/Pitching Coach at USC-Lancaster (2018-2019)
Coach Ray has also previously served as the Recruiting Coordinator/Pitching Coach at both the University of South Carolina-Lancaster.
Recruiting Coordinator/Pitching Coach at Florence-Darlington Tech (2017-2018)
While at Florence-Darlington Technical College, Ray helped the program win the 2018 Region X Regular Season title. Ray’s staff posted a team ERA of 2.83, which was the sixth lowest nationally, and had three players drafted into the MLB.
As A Player
Before serving on the USC-Lancaster coaching staff, Ray was a catcher and a member of 2015 Region X Championship team. After graduating with an Associate Degree in Science, Ray attended the University of South Carolina where he graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies.
