Logan Johnson was promoted to Assistant Coach in 2022 after three seasons as Director of Basketball Operations for Blue Raider hoops.
In his third season as an Assistant Coach for Middle Tennessee, Johnson's offense saw immense improvements compared to the year prior. The most notable of which saw the team averaging 76.7 points scored per contest, a 10.5-point increase in scoring average that was the largest of any Conference USA team and the 10th largest in Division I for the 2024-25 season. The Blue Raiders averaged the most points per game since the 1996-97 season, whose squad averaged 78.3 points per contest. The program scored 70+ points in nine straight games from February 1 to March 13, the longest such streak since the 1996-97 season. The success saw the team finish the season with a 22-12 record, just the 16th season in Blue Raider history with 20+ wins, and earn a hosting bid for the 2025 National Invitation Tournament. Four student-athletes were named to All-Conference teams, with guards Jestin Porter and Camryn Weston voted Second Team and Honorable Mention, respectively.
The 2023-24 campaign began with two student-athletes named to the Preseason All-CUSA team and the team voted to finish at the top of the league table in the conference preseason poll. The Blue Raiders bounced back after a difficult midseason to win eight of their final 14 games and advance to the CUSA Championship Semifinals after upsetting No. 2 seed LA Tech in the Quarterfinals. Johnson helped with the development of guard Jestin Porter to a standout junior season, earning Second Team All-CUSA honors and a nod to the CUSA All-Tournament Team
In his first season as an assistant coach with Middle Tennessee, Johnson helped the team to a 19-14 record and another CUSA Championship Semifinal appearance after knocking out Charlotte in the quarterfinals matchup. He also aided with the growth of Eli Lawrence, who garnered Second Team All-CUSA recognition, and Camryn Weston, who earned Honorable Mention All-CUSA status.
As the Director of Basketball Operations, Johnson oversaw graduate assistants and student managers, all team travel logistics, monitored the team budget and was the camp director for the Nick McDevitt Basketball Camp.
Johnson spent the 2018-19 season as the Director of Player Development at Campbell University, helping the Camels to a share of the Big South regular season championship and an appearance in the Big South Tournament championship game.
While he was a new face in Murfreesboro he is a familiar one for McDevitt, having spent the four seasons prior to his lone season at Campbell as an assistant coach for the Blue Raiders’ head man at UNC Asheville.
His four years under McDevitt in Asheville saw the Bulldogs win 81 games and three conference championships with three consecutive 20-win seasons in his final three years.
McDevitt first hired Johnson following a three-year stint at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, where he served as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator. Ouachita won the 2013 Great American Conference Tournament in his second season on staff.
Johnson spent the 2010-11 season as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee and was involved with many aspects of the program including skill development, scouting, and film breakdown.
Prior to his coaching career, Johnson was a four-year starter for at Coastal Carolina and helped the Chanticleers to the 2010 Big South Championship. He was Big South All-Tournament Team selection in 2010 and was twice named to the Big South Academic All-Conference Team.
Johnson was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court in 2010 and named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team in 2010.
A Knoxville, Tenn., native, Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Coastal Carolina in 2010 and completed his master’s degree in sport management from Old Dominion in 2015.
