Deckard Freshman of the Year as Middle Tennessee Prepares for Tournament Play

Denver, CO - Shakeithia Deckard, an outside hitter from Nacogdoches, TX, was named Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Tuesday night as Middle Tennessee prepares for conference play on Wednesday.
Deckard had 448 kills and averaged four kills per game in the regular season, and also had 1149 attacks with an attack percentage of .235. She is ranked fifth in the Lady Raider record books for kills in a season and is three kills away from fourth place and 12 away from third place.
The Lady Raiders (9-20, 4-10 SBC), who are seeded fourth in the East, will play New Orleans, seeded fifth in the West, in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday at 5 p.m. on the campus of the University of Denver In their last meeting, the Privateers defeated Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro 2-3.
The winner of the game between Middle Tennessee and New Orleans will play No. 1 seed in the West New Mexico State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
