Men's and Women's Track Host Indoor Meet Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's and women's track and field will preview their 2002 indoor squad Saturday at 11:30 a.m., as the team hosts Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt University, Tennessee State, Appalachian State University and Belmont University in the Murphy Center.
Middle Tennessee's men is led by All-American sprinter Godfrey Herring who finished fifth in the 400-meters at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Eugene, OR in 2001. He is a dominant sprinter for the Blue Raiders, who is expected to have continued success in his senior season.
The sprint corps also has All-American hurdler Jasper Demps. The senior from West Palm Beach, FL made it to the semi-finals of the 110-meter hurdles at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
In the jumps senior Rob Jordan returns in the long jump and triple jump after missing most of last season due to a season ending injury. Geoffrey Lagat, the 2001 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Individual champion, leads the distance crew but will not be competing on Saturday.
Junior Kim Freeman, from Mobile, AL, leads the way for the women's track and field team. The triple jumper set a Sun Belt Conference Championships indoor record with a jump of 42'04.25.
Long and triple jumper Stephany Reid returns for her junior season after earning two bronze medals in the 2001 Canada Games this fall. Someone to watch for 2002 is freshman Jennifer Howard, she is the first female pole-vaulter in Lady Raider track and field history.
