Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee opens its home season on Tuesday by hosting Belmont University at 7 p.m. in Murphy Center.
The Lady Raiders will have the definite home advantage, but Belmont University benefits by traveling a short distance to play its first game in over a week. Both teams will be leery of travel for a few weeks, so it is advantageous for both teams to get back into the swing of things with close cross-town opponents.
"I think it helps both teams playing so close to home," said head coach Lisa Kissee. "Teams across the country will be a little worried about travel for a while, especially getting on an airplane, so this is a great match for both teams to open back up with after so many days off."
It has been eight days since Middle Tennessee and Belmont played their last match. The Lady Raiders defeated Western Illinois at the Bradley Invitational 3-0 and Belmont lost to Tennessee Tech 0-3.
Kissee said the time off and recent events will affect teams across the country, and bouncing back will depend on each team and how they handle the situation. She added Middle Tennessee players sat down and talked about the recent events and the team decided to try and re-focus on their goals and strive for some sense of normalcy.
Middle Tennessee is undefeated in the four meetings with Belmont University. The two teams met last season and the Lady Raiders defeated the Bruins 16-14, 15-7, 15-11.
