Peoria, IL - In a sweltering Robertson Memorial Field House former Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay State University defeated the Middle Tennessee Lady Raider volleyball team 15-30, 26-30, 30-14, 23-30 at the Mark Twain Invitational on the campus of Bradley University.
Middle Tennessee opened the match on a positive note, as junior setter Kelly Quinn recorded the first point in the first game off a service ace., but after the first point, it was all Lady Govs. Both teams had to tip toe the sidelines as the gym floor was a raised court, which dropped off a foot to the floor.
Freshman Shakeithia Deckard extended her kill streak to five games, as she hit 16 kills on 36 attacks. Junior Katie Thiesen was the only other Lady Raider to register double figure kills with 14, and had 33 attacks.
It was the 44th meeting between the two teams, and the Lady Govs now own a 32-12 advantage over the Lady Raiders. Middle Tennessee falls to 2-4 on the season and Austin Peay improves to 3-2.
Middle Tennessee will play host Bradley at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and will finish the tournament at 5 p.m. when the Lady Raiders will play Western Illinois. The Lady Raiders play both teams for the first time in school history.
