Blue Raiders Take 6-1 Victory Over Louisville

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The 37th-ranked Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders won the doubles point and all but one singles match en route to a 6-1 tennis victory over 67th-ranked Louisville Saturday at the Racquet Club. The ninth-ranked doubles tandem of Oliver Foreman and Robert Gustafsson began the match with an 8-1 victory over Louisville's Alex Sivertsen and Octavian Nicodim. The 27th-ranked team of MT's Daniel Klemetz and Kirk Jackson then won 8-4 over Cody Conley and Paulo Carvalho to give the Blue Raiders the doubles point. At No. 3 doubles, 51st-rated Trevor Short and Michael Staniak lost to Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe, 8-4. In singles action, the Blue Raiders (2-0) won at spots 1-5 before newcomer Rishan Kuruppu dropped the only point of the match at No. 6 singles. Twelth-ranked Daniel Klemetz had the hardest time of the winners, winning 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (3) over Conley at No. 1. Gustafsson and Foreman won by identical 6-4, 6-4 scores over Sivertsen and Nicodim. At No. 4, Staniak defeated Carvalho, 6-1, 6-2, while Jackson took out Mayer, 6-1, 6-4. Kuruppu dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to McCombe at No. 6. "We competed well. We were probably more talented and were happy to get a victory today," Middle Tennessee head coach Dale Short said. "We didn't play great, but it was our first match after a long trip to Hawaii and hopefully we'll pick it up a notch as we approach Indiana State next weekend." The Blue Raiders return to action on February 2 at Indiana State before hosting Chattanooga on February 5 at 3 p.m. at the Racquet Club.
