COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee (3-4) softball ended the first day of the Tennessee Tech Ice-Breaker Worth Tournament 1-1 on Saturday.
The Lady Raiders opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Virginia. Middle Tennessee got all of their runs on a four run rally that included a two RBI double by pitcher Jennifer Martinez.
Overall, Martinez upped her record to 3-1 with seven strikeouts and two walks. The Lady Raider freshman continued to step it up as both Danni DeCamino and Leah Grothause went 1-3 in the game.
Middle Tennessee finished the day in a match-up with intra-state rival Tennessee Tech (3-4), dropping the game 7-3. A rocky fourth inning by junior pitcher Stayc Preator (0-2), in which Tech scored seven runs, put the game out of reach for the Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders did put together a nice rally in the sixth inning scoring three runs, including another two RBI game by Marinez. Freshman DeCamino picked up the third RBI with a rope into centerfield.
Middle Tennessee will close out the tournament on Sunday when the Lady Raiders face Louisville at 10 a.m. and Bradley University at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at the Cane Creek Sports Complex
