Softball Drops Two at Sunshine Tourney

TALAHASSEE, Fla. - Middle Tennessee softball (0-2) dropped their opening games 3-1 to Iowa State and 11-0 to Florida State at the Sunshine State Tournament on the campus of Florida State University Friday.
The Lady Raiders opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Iowa State. The Cyclones got on the board for the first time in the third inning when Ashley Core stole home after reaching first base on a fielders choice.
Iowa State scored two more runs in the sixth inning. Then Middle Tennessee put one run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kip Phillips reached on an error, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when sophomore Dani DeCamino singled up the middle.
Senior hurler Stayc Preator took the loss as she pitched a complete game allowing three runs on five hits and striking out 10. She also continues her continuous innings without a walk with 50.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Raiders were taken to task by the No. 9 ranked Florida State Seminoles. In the five-inning affair, Florida State scored three runs in the first, four in the second, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Freshman Muriel Ledbetter got her first start of her career and picked up the loss. She threw 3.2 innings allowing nine runs on 10 hits. Leora Brannon pitched 1.1 innings allowing one on three hits.
The Lady Raiders will face the same two teams on Saturday, as Middle Tennessee takes on Florida State at 10 a.m. and Iowa State at 3 p.m. Middle Tennessee hosts it's home opener against East Tennessee on Wednesday February 19 at 2 and 4 p.m.
