Track Teams Set for Mideast Regional

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee's track and field teams will compete at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at the first annual NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Mideast Regional Championships this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The field will consist of the region's top performers coming from a total of 76 men's squads and 77 women's teams.
The Blue Raiders have 16 members participating Friday and Saturday, including several runners in more than one event.
Junior Mardy Scales has qualified in both the 100 and 200m, while junior college transfer Pedro Holiday, who came to school in December as a football signee, will run in the 100m.
The Blue Raiders have three qualifiers in the 400m - freshman Sean Waller, sophomore Victor Okorie and junior Fred Williams - while Okorie, DJ Spann and Brad Orr have all qualified in the 400-meter hurdles.
Middle Tennessee also has four squad members in the 110-meter hurdles - Garland Martin, Jasper Demps, Linnie Yarbrough and Orr.
Senior Levi Sybert qualified in the 3000-meter steeplechase just last week in the Georgia Tech Invitational, while both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays have both qualified.
Senior Rob Jordan wil participate in both the long and triple jump, while freshman JJ Sturm will compete in the long jump.
For the Lady Raiders, sophomore Rosemary Okafor qualified in three events - the 100, 200 and 400-meters, but will participate in just the 100 and 200.
Sophomore Kishara George set a school-record in the 400-meter hurdles earlier this season, while the Lady Raiders will run in the 4x400-meter relay
Senior Kim Freeman is the last of the female participants and will compete in both the long and triple jump.
