The Lady Raiders are coming off a 2-1 record over the weekend when Middle Tennessee hosted the MT Invitational. Memphis picked up three wins over the weekend shutting all three opponents they faced.
This mid-week match-up with Memphis will be the eighth meeting between the two teams, and the Lady Tigers boast a 4-3 advantage over the Lady Raiders. Last season Middle Tennessee defeated Memphis 3-2 in the Memphis Invitational.
"Anytime you face a Tennessee school it is going to be a good game because we are natural rivals," said head coach Lisa Kissee. "Memphis is probably going to come in with a little revenge on their mind since we beat them on their home court last season."
Key match-ups at the outside hitter position will post Memphis' Tiara Gilky (averaging 4.05 kills per game) and Brittany Barnett (averaging 3.44 kills per game) against Middle Tennessee's KeKe Deckard (averaging 4.24 kills per game). Lady Raider Karisse Baker, at the middle blocker position, will also play a factor as she is averaging 3.02 kills per game.
"Tiara for Memphis really puts the ball away well," Kissee said. "We will have to play a good defensive game against Memphis to win."
Middle Tennessee begins Sun Belt Conference play on Friday September 26 when the Lady Raiders travel to Denton, Texas to take on North Texas at 7 p.m.
