Men's Tennis Heads to No. 22 Vanderbilt

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The 57th-ranked Middle Tennessee men's tennis team plays its final road match of the season Wednesday at No. 22 Vanderbilt at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr., Tennis Center starting at 2 p.m. The Blue Raiders come off a very successful weekend at home, defeating 54th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday before avenging a loss from earlier this season against then No. 57 Old Dominion, 4-2. Freshman Andreas Siljestrom won the clinching match in both victories at No. 2 singles. After Wednesday's tilt against the Commodores, Middle Tennessee hosts a pair of matches this coming weekend, facing 27th-ranked Tulane Saturday before taking on UAB Sunday. Both matches start at noon. Saturday's match against Tulane has been set Wally Tidwell Fan Day. The first 50 fans will receive free t-shirts and everyone will get free drinks during the match at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center on the Middle Tennessee campus. A new gazebo dedicated to long-time Blue Raider fan Wally Tidwell will be unveiled before the match. The generocity of those who donated to the Wally Tidwell Memorial Fund, as well as the Gene Short Memorial Fund, helped pay for the gazebo, which will sit next to the grandstand facing green courts 5-8 at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. Ila Tidwell, the widow of Wally Tidwell, will be in attendance for the dedication. "This is the highest ranked team coming to Murfreesboro this season and it should be a great match," Middle Tennessee head coach Dale Short said. "We wanted to dedicate the gazebo to Wally for all of his hard work over the years for our program and attract a large group of fans for the day and the match."
