Lady Raiders set to begin fall season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team will get the 2004 fall season underway on Monday and Tuesday at the Ann Rhoades/Alabama Intercollegiate in Tuscaloosa. The 54-hole event has been shortened to 36 holes due to Hurricane Ivan.
"This will be a real big test for our team because there will be a lot of top ranked programs competing," Head Coach Rachael Short said. "But we are all anxious to get started and look forward to a great year."
The team conducted five qualifying rounds for the opening tournament and two seniors, a sophomore and two freshmen made the cut. Leading the way was sophomore Maggie McGill (Bowling Green, Kent.) who will play at the No. 1 spot, while freshman Taryn Durham (Glasgow, Kent.) qualified in second place. Senior Kristin Lynch (Tullahoma, Tenn.), who had the team's best average a year ago, had the third best score and will once again be counted on for leadership.
Freshman Jamey Dillard (Madison, Tenn.) and senior Kemmerlee Pennington (Crossville, Tenn.) will round out the top five.
"I am really excited about this team and the potential that we have with this group of girls," said Short. "We are pretty young, but we have a lot of potential. Maggie (McGill) won a tournament last year and the two freshmen have really impressed me with their hard work and I expect great things from them this year."
The Lady Raiders will tee it up on Monday morning with 18 holes at the Ol' Colony Golf Club. The final round is set for Tuesday.
