Blue Raider Volleyball Returns Home This Weekend

MURFRESSBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball returns home, after almost a month on the road, as the team hosts Southeast Missouri State (6-9) on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sun Belt foe Florida International (10-7, 1-2 SBC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. "We are really excited about finally coming back home to play," said Head Coach Matt Peck. "We played so well on the road and I know the team wants to do the same at home." The Blue Raiders went 7-1 in the road-match stretch, with the only loss coming at Western Kentucky on September 23. Middle Tennessee posted four shutouts in the road swing and lost a total of six games. Middle Tennessee will be protecting a five-match winning streak at home. The last time the Blue Raiders lost at home was August 26, when the team fell 4-1 to the University of Texas at El Paso. The 17-2 record Middle Tennessee has posted so far this season is the best start in school history. Middle Tennessee has already equaled its win total from last season and with three more wins the team could post 20 plus wins for the first time since the team won 32 in 1995. Peck said even though the Saturday's match is against non-conference opponent Southeast Missouri State, he isn't treating it any different. He sees it as an important match to help the team gear up for Florida International the next day. "We really want to play well against SEMO," Peck said. "It will help us when we play Florida International, because playing FIU ends our first round of matches with Sun Belt East opponents." The Blue Raiders are led by junior Andressa Lyra who is averaging 4.67 kills and 3.19 digs per game. She has also recorded double figure kills in all of the Blue Raiders' matches this season. Sophomore libero Alicia Lemau'u is the reigning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. She leads the team in digs, averaging 4.93 per game. Junior setter Megan Sumrell is averaging 12.56 assists per game.
