The Blue Raiders are still suffering from its pitching woes but did get solid performances out of back-up pitchers Jennifer Dorais and Trish White. Dorais pitched in the first game and White was in the circle for the second, and both hurlers tossed complete games for the first time this season.
In the first game, Dorais gave up a run in the first, second and sixth innings to ETSU for the 3-0 loss to the Bucs. Middle Tennessee did have runners in scoring position twice as Melissa Weiland and Jennifer Grybash each hit doubles in the game, but failed to push a run across.
Middle Tennessee only had three hits in game one, with the third hit coming from Leah Grothause. Dorais took the loss in the game and falls to 0-4 on the season.
White got the call for the second game and spotted ETSU two runs in the bottom of the first inning. She held the Bucs scoreless for the preceding five innings to allow the Blue Raiders a chance to tie the game.
Middle Tennessee's opportunity came in the top of the fifth when Brandi Boehner got on base due to an ETSU error. Boehner was thrown out at second thanks to a fielder's choice that placed Kayla Sparks on first. Sparks moved to second on a single by Christi Benton, which put runners on first and second.
With two outs, Grybash hit a line drive between shortstop and third base to plate Sparks. Grothause's RBI single tied the game when pinch runner Michelle Wilkes scored the second run of the inning.
Middle Tennessee had a chance to force extra innings with ETSU as the Blue Raiders had two outs and no one on base on ETSU. The Bucs rallied with three consecutive singles to score the game winner and give ETSU a 3-2 win over Middle Tennessee.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on April 6 when the Blue Raiders host Evansville. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
