Tracksters Set for NCAA Mideast Regional

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee seniors Kishara George and Laetitia Florimond as well as junior Linnie Yarbrough lead a contingent of 12 athletes taking part in the NCAA Mideast Regional at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex Friday and Saturday in Bloomington, Ind.
George and Florimond were major contributors for the Lady Raiders in Middle Tennessee's Sun Belt Outdoor Championship two weeks ago in New Orleans, La. George won the 400-meters, running the event for the first time this season, and broke her own school record in the intermediate hurdles. She also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay, as the Lady Raiders claimed their second SBC title and first since 2000.
Florimond broke her own school record in the javelin with a personal-best 140-9 in winning the event, and placed second in the discus and fourth in the shot put, as well as jumping a personal-best in the long jump.
Yarbrough was a busy man in the SBC Championships, as well, winning the 110-meter hurdles and placing fourth in the long jump with a personal-best mark. He also was sixth in the intermediate hurdles and eighth as a member of the 4x100-meter relay.
A total of eight women will take part in the two-day event on the University of Indiana campus. Freshman Stephanie Tamgho will compete in both the long and triple jump, and freshman Sierra Douglas will take part in the triple jump. Candice Robertson, who set a personal-best in the 100-meter hurdles at the SBC Championships, will run in the hurdles, while George will take part in the intermediate hurdles.
Florimond will compete in the javelin and shot put, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Kerry Barrow, Antranette Stringer, Shanna-Kay Campbell and George will run.
For the men, VanTonio Fraley will compete in the 100- and 200-meters, while freshman Alex Pruitt will take part in the high jump and Yarbrough will be in the 110-meter hurdles.
