Laura Moore tossed the first shutout of her career in the first game. The freshman hurler threw a one-hitter to best her two-hitter earlier in the season. She also had two strikeouts and allowed two walks.
It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Blue Raiders struck for three runs.
Junior Muriel Ledbetter led off the sixth with a double to right center. Brandi Boehner came in and pinch ran for Ledbetter then moved to third on a passed ball. Melissa Weiland's RBI single sent Boehner home to break the scoreless tie. Jennifer Dorais scored Weiland when she hit an RBI double and Dorais got home when Marth Davis flew out to left field.
Middle Tennessee picked up where it left off in the second game. The Blue Raiders got the first two runs of the game in the second inning thanks to Lady Mocs' miscues. Katie Mielke scored the first run on a Chattanooga error and Dorias scored on a passed ball.
Chattanooga took its first lead of the two games when the Lady Mocs scored three runs in the top of the third. Sophomore hurler Ashley Katinas started the game and went 2.1 innings before she was pulled after giving up three runs off three hits. Moore came back into the game to close out the third inning.
Middle Tennessee regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ledbetter hit a leadoff homerun for her third round-tripper of the year to tie the game at three. Weiland and pinch hitter Samantha Floyd hit back-to-back singles to give the Blue Raiders a chance to take the lead. Shortstop Shelby Stiner came up to bat with two outs and hit a two RBI double to give the club a 5-3 lead.
Moore picked up her second win of the day and improved to 4-4 on the season. Junior Trish White closed out the game for the Blue Raiders, coming in for Moore. White notched her second save of the year.
Ledbetter led the Blue Raiders going 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Stiner was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Friday when the Blue Raiders compete in the Frost Classic in Chattanooga. The Blue Raiders open the tournament with Tennessee Tech at 10 a.m.
