Blue Raiders Swept by SEMO

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball (7-19-1) dropped a pair of games, 11-0, 12-3, to Southeast Missouri State (12-7) Wednesday at Riverdale High School.
In the second game, Southeast Missouri State struck first with four runs. The Blue Raiders struggled through three errors to aid in the Redhawks' rally.
Middle Tennessee got back one run in the bottom of the first. Katie Mielke led off the inning with a homerun, her second of the season.
SEMO answered with two additional runs in the second inning. The Blue Raiders came back to tack on a pair of runs of their own. Samantha Floyd led off the third with a double and sophomore Kristine Reed hit a homerun over the right field wall to for the two run bomb.
The Redhawks came back in the fourth to add two runs. SEMO added four runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a grand-slam by Michelle Summers.
Trish White started the game and lasted just two innings, falling to 1-7. She allowed six runs on five hits with just three earned runs in the game. Floyd came in and completed the game.
Middle Tennessee was shutout in the first game 11-0. Summers sparked Southeast Missouri State to begin the game when she was hit by Blue Raider pitcher Ashley Katinas. The Redhawks' Megan McDonald hit an RBI single to score Summers for SEMO's first run of the game.
Katinas tossed two scoreless innings before SEMO struck again. The Redhawks hit back-to-back homeruns to push the score to 3-0. SEMO had bases loaded with one out but Middle Tennessee got a force out and a fly out to end the Redhawk threat.
SEMO added eight more runs in the top of the sixth inning to force the run rule. Middle Tennessee did attempt a late rally in the bottom of the sixth as Justine Cerda and Katie Mielke hit back-to-back singles and Muriel Ledbetter was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, Reed ground out to end the Blue Raider scoring attempt.
Melissa Weiland led the Blue Raiders going 2-for-2 with a double and a single. Katinas took the loss and falls to 1-3 on the season.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Friday when the Blue Raiders face host Louisville in the Louisville Tournament. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
